Passings

With the recent passing of the french born artist, Louise Bourgeois (1911 - 2010) directed in to new discovery that the textile artist Lucienne Day (1917 - 2010) had also passed away earlier of this year in January. I only heard of Lucienne Day about two years ago and remembered liking her for her whimsical textiles design. Even looking at them now, they look so timeless that it looks like it has been something a modern day textile print-maker would do. Check out this link for more information.

One of the works that had really stuck with me made by Louise Bourgeois has produced are the "maman", giant black spider sculpture that brought me feelings of fear but also appreciate the look of the fragility of the figure.

"Storm", Slide & Sound Installation. 2005.

"Storm", 2005
Slide & Sound Installtion

Storm is my first slide and sound installation work that I did back in 2005. It is a commentary piece about hurricane Katrina versus many hurricanes that third world countries like Honduras have faced around the same time. I'm trying to make a statement about how powerful country like America was able to stir so much attention to themselves when countries like Honduras had no media coverage at all; just how much control America has with the media.

The middle slide moves constantly showing the hurricane eye growing bigger and bigger.

The red lights are there creating a globe like manner also suggesting global warming.
